Get Involved
BIL is organized by the community, so please help out in whatever way you can. Here’s how you can get started.
Pre-BIL:
- Join the Friends of BIL Mailing List – we won’t send out too many messages (haven’t actually sent any yet), but this will be how we share important information with the group.
- Join the BIL Community – This is where most of the BIL planning will get done. We replaced the wiki from last year with this community site. You still have just as much power as you did on the wiki, but now it is more of a conversation rather than a whiteboard.
- Post your talk ideas and comment on others
- Join/Start a group to help organize the event
- Meet other BIL’ders

During BIL
At BIL everything you need will be provided for by BIL. By BIL we mean you, because you are BIL. So everything you need will be provided by you. You’ll be your own speaker, audience, AV person, caterer, and so on… Your BILders Toolkit is a conference in a can.
With the items below two people can create a BIL conference anywhere they want. (Really you don’t need any of this, but comfort is nice)
- A laptop – The presenters will be putting their slides up on websites or for download. Have your laptop so you can follow along.
- A cell phone – You’ll need to coordinate things with other people. We recommend text messages. Also, the BIL Community works great on a cell phone.
- A photo and/or video camera (if you have one) - Post the photos to Flickr (tag = bil) and the videos to Youtube (tag = bil).
- A power strip – Everyone will have lots of electronic gadgets. Avoid fights. Bring your own power strip. Daisy chain them to spread the love.
